ALCANCE Calendario de Eventos

ALCANCE meets on the third Wednesday of every month at the AUSD District Office.
In partnership with California State PTA via a grant from the Hewlett Foundation, the group received coaching to focus efforts on building capacity and community.

NEXT LEVEL: CULTIVATING PARENT ADVOCACY

ALCANCE was selected to participate in a statewide pilot program (in partnership with the California State PTA and the CDE Foundation) to learn how to navigate the new California School Dashboard.

The meeting took place on January 17, 2018. Click for more information in English (PDF) or Spanish (PDF). Families walked away with an understanding of school performance by learning to read reported state data on a district and school level. The group will look for ways to engage more families at their own schools and together work brainstorm on what they can do to improve achievement for Latino students.

SCHOOL SMARTS/ALCANCE FAMILIES

Our Spanish speaking families have the opportunity to participate in School Smarts educational programming that teaches them how to navigate the American public school system. For a period of seven weeks they learn how children learn, what they will learn, how schools are structured and how they can get involved.

ALCANCE supports the next level of involvement and advocacy for their children.

ALCANCE CONOCE TUS DERECHOS KNOW YOUR RIGHTS

On April 18, 2017, the Alameda City Council voted to support immigrant and refugee support services and programs. Working in partnership with the Alameda Unified School District (AUSD), the Social Service Human Relations Board (SSHRB) is hosting a “Know Your Rights” Workshop at Ruby Bridges Elementary School on Wednesday, May 31, from 6:30-8:00 pm. The presentation focused on what to do in your home, school, workplace, or out on the street if faced with deportation and ICE raids. The workshop was facilitated by the International Institute of the Bay Area and presented in both English and Spanish with support of ALCANCE members. Alameda Police Chief Paul Rolleri will also be on hand to explain what Alameda’s Sanctuary City status means from a law enforcement perspective. Admission is Free.
