Afterschool Care and Activities

The ASES grant subsidizes afterschool programs operating at Love, Maya Lin, and Ruby Bridges Elementary Schools.

• Priority registration is provided for students who qualify for Free and Reduced Price Meals, are unhoused, or are foster youth. Qualification must be renewed annually. Students who do not meet this criteria can attend the program for a fee.
• Programs provide students with safe and educationally enriching alternatives during non-school hours, including literacy, academic enrichment, and physical activities.
• Programs operate for a minimum of three hours daily, until 6:00 p.m. during the school year.
• Participants who take advantage of the three hour daily mandatory participation will be given priority registration. Families need to complete early release waivers when children leave before the three-hour participation requirement.
• The grant is strictly monitored for attendance compliance.

What is ELOP?

Alameda Unified School District's Expanded Learning Programs provide young people in grades TK-6 with enrichment, physical activity, academic support, and nutritious snacks. Afterschool programs operate from the end of the school day until 6 p.m. each day school is in session. Our summer/ intersession day programs operate for nine hours each day. 

We notify families of these opportunities through ParentSquare, flyers, and social media. Please follow allregistration instructions as there are deadlines.

Programs are free for students who qualify for Free and Reduced Price Meals (FRPM, are unhoused, or who are  foster youth. Qualification must be renewed annually. Students who do not meet this criteria can attend the program for a fee. The fee varies depending on how many days per week your child attends the program.

To see if you qualify for the free program, apply on MySchoolApps. A member of our Food Services team will be in contact with you and, if you qualify, you can present the proof of eligibility to your afterschool program for a fee waiver.

These programs are funded by the After School Education and Safety (ASES) grant, and the Expanded Learning Opportunity (ELOP) funding from the California Department of Education.

ELOP Program Elements

• New TK-6 programs launched at Bay Farm, Earhart, Edison, Franklin, Otis, Paden, Encinal Jr., Lincoln, and Wood.
• Grant supports ELOP-qualifying TK-5 elementary students and 6th grade students in our middle school sites.
• Priority registration is provided for students who qualify for Free and Reduced Price Meals, are unhoused, or are foster youth. Qualification must be renewed annually. Students who do not meet this criteria can attend the program for a fee.
• Programs provide TK-6th grade students with safe and educationally enriching alternatives during non-school hours, including literacy, academic enrichment, and physical activities.
• Programs operate daily until 6:00 p.m. during the school year.
• Programs offer 30 non-school, 9-hour Intersession (summer and winter break) days. Priority registration will be given to families who participate for the entirety of the program.
• No-fee enrollment is contingent on qualifying for Free and Reduced Price Meals each year. Please complete this during Data Confirmation/Back to School Registration or via our MySchoolApps page.

The Board of Education voted to approve the contract for the ELOP afterschool care provider at its March 14, 2023 Board of Education meeting. 

Information and registration links were sent to all families in TK-5 in late March. The fee-based programs are now closed for enrollment, although we are keeping waitlists for the fall program.  Families who qualify for free and reduced price meals can still apply via the Data Confirmation process that opens on August 1. Program registration has been open since April, and will remain open for one more week after data registration. Thereafter, families will be added to a waitlist and contacted if space opens up.
