teacher of the year program

The Teacher of the Year program is designed to honor and recognize excellent teachers working in the Alameda Unified School District (AUSD). This is a unique opportunity to provide well-deserved
recognition for the whole teaching profession, as well as for the distinguished teachers that are nominated. Parents, students, staff, and community members have the opportunity to nominate any
pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade teacher or a teacher of adults who provide instruction in the same curriculum as those who teach in elementary or secondary grades.

2020 teacher of the year

 dodson

We are delighted to announce that the nominating committee selected Brian Dodson, who teaches second grade, for the 2020 Teacher of the Year award.  Mr. Dodson is in his eighth year of teaching in AUSD and was selected for his deep care for his students and families, his natural leadership,  and his collaborative spirit.

“This is as much a team award as it is an individual one,” he says, “because I would not be the teacher I am today without working alongside the incredibly talented and dedicated staff at Maya Lin. I’d like to thank my fellow teachers at Maya Lin for being an ongoing inspiration to me. I would also be remiss if I didn’t mention that the culture of collaboration, ingenuity, and joy did not appear at Maya Lin on accident, and I owe a huge debt of gratitude to my principal, Judy Goodwin. She truly sees her teachers as artists and allows us time and space to develop as educators.”

A full press release about Mr. Dodson is available here.
