AUSD provides families with educational conversations and workshops that support their parenting journey through the childhood and adolescent years.

To support your child's social-emotional growth, academic development, and college readiness, this year we are hosting conversations to support families with navigating grade-level milestones, mental health, and wellness, and supporting families with digital media and screen time. 2022-2023 Events

Supporting Families Digital Media and Screen Time

A Presentation by Common Sense Media

October 4 | 6 pm - 7:30 pm

Join us for an interactive workshop exploring ways to address screen time use and passive media use. Families and Caregivers will learn:

Practical tips to support your child to balance scree-time use
An understanding of how social media impacts young people and how to support your child in better understanding awareness online

This interactive workshop will take participants through a series of activities and practical prompts so they leave with a plan to support their child. Come with questions and leave with a clear direction.

All sessions will be from 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm via Zoom.

AUSD will host a series of five community learning conversations to learn and discuss the essential conditions that foster safe and inclusive spaces in our schools. All AUSD community members and parent/guardian school site leaders who would like to learn about and help build safe and inclusive school communities are welcome.

11th Grade: College Overview

October 27 | 6 pm - 7 pm

Please join us on October 27 from 6 pm - 7 pm as we cover a wide range of topics related to college admissions. This overview is geared towards sophomores, juniors, and their parents/guardians. We will have a zoom presentation by our very own Mrs. Lee Kaplan, High School College and Career Counselor, followed by a Q&A. Topics covered include:

Cs or better (Grade recovery)

6th Grade Overview for Families

November 9 | 6 pm - 7 pm

Please join us to explore the developmental needs of middle school students and better understand the academic and social expectations of 6th grade.

We will have a zoom presentation by our very own Melissa Saunders, Middle School Counselor and Parenting Coach, followed by a Q&A.

Topics will include: readiness skills, family routines, and support strategies.

9th Grade Transition to High School: An Overview for Families

November 16 | 6 pm - 7 pm

Please join us on November 16 from 6 pm - 7 pm as we cover a wide range of topics related to the transition to High School. We will have a zoom presentation by our very own Mrs. Lee Kaplan, High School College and Career Counselor, followed by a Q&A. Topics covered include:

The transition to high school
Self-advocacy
Graduation Requirements
Course Requirements
The importance of the 4-year academic plan
Basic requirements for college entrance

Mental Health and Wellbeing Sessions

All sessions via Zoom

All families and their students are welcome to join our Mental Health and Wellbeing Sessions with Brooke Briggance, Program Director and AUSD Parent, Cypress Resilience Project, Public Health Department.

"Toxic Stress: What Happens in the Brain When We Experience Stress"

December 7 | 6 pm - 7 pm

During this workshop, attendees will learn what happens in the brain during stress, how to identify when stress becomes toxic, and talk through some strategies for managing stress effectively for ourselves and our students.

"Supporting Children and Youth During a Critical Time"

March 15 | 6 pm - 7 pm

During this workshop, we will learn to identify when our children/youth are experiencing toxic levels of stress that can lead to mental health challenges. We will discuss some coping strategies and work through how adults play an important role in the wellness of children and youth.

Online Safety Hub Webinars for Families

AUSD has partnered with Linewize, a leading global provider of online safety products and education, to create an educational hub for parents and teachers. This hub includes articles, videos, and short classes to help adults learn how to keep their kids safe online.

To learn how to use the hub, Linewize is offering three 30 minute sessions over the next several months, as follows:

December 1: Elementary Families | Recording

Each session is from 6:30 pm - 7 pm.
