Last fall, AUSD launched a series of interviews between Superintendent Scuderi and AUSD teachers and staff. The interviews are meant to spotlight the high-quality instruction happening in our classrooms and help the community understand the goals of our 2023 Strategic Plan.
For the third interview, Superintendent Scuderi interviewed three AUSD educators involved in developing more equitable grading policies for the district: Vernon Walton, Ed.D., AUSD Director of Secondary Education; Lori MacDonald, a math instructor at Encinal Jr. & Sr. High School; and Steve Allen, an 8th grade core instructor at Lincoln Middle School.
During the interview, Superintendent Scuderi and the panel discussed the drawbacks of traditional grading, the benefits of equitable grading practices, some common misconceptions about the effects of these practices, and the teachers' experience implementing them. We encourage our community to watch the video and explore the resources on our new web page.
