A crowd of adults in a meeting
The Board of Education will interview applicants for its vacant seat at a special meeting this Friday, December 8. The meeting, which is open to the public, will be held at the District Office at 5:00 pm. It will also be livestreamed via Teams.

One seat on the Board of Education became vacant when Board Vice President Megan Sweet resigned in late October. On November 3, the Board of Education unanimously voted to fill the vacancy via appointment. Applications were made available to the community on November 6, with a deadline of December 6 to submit.

The eleven applicants for the vacant seat are:

  • Joyce Boyd
  • Lee Conway
  • Marnie Curry
  • Dan Hurst
  • Shulin Lin
  • Barb McClung
  • David Nelsen
  • Elena Rivkin
  • Margie Sherratt
  • Jeff Smith
  • Alanna (Alex) Spehr

Candidate applications are attached to the agenda item cover sheet.

At the December 8 meeting, each candidate will give a three-minute opening statement. Once all candidates have given their statement, each candidate will answer a question posed by the Board. Community members can make 2-minute public comments following the question and answer period.

The Board will deliberate and vote on a provisional candidate at its public meeting on Tuesday, December 12. The new member will serve for the remainder of Ms. Sweet's term (November, 2024).

More information about the process is available on the Board Vacancy Process webpage.
