Alameda, Calif. — Wednesday, March 25, 2026 — At its March 24 public meeting, AUSD’s Board of Education voted to approve a 10% ongoing salary increase over the next three years for all three of AUSD’s bargaining units:  the Alameda Education Association, CSEA-27, and CSEA-860. The unions have also ratified the agreements.

10 percent salary increase

The Alameda Education Association represents teachers, nurses, speech and language pathologists, and counselors. CSEA-27 represents office/technical workers and paraprofessionals), and CSEA-860 represents (custodial, maintenance, and food service workers.

Under the terms of the new contracts, members of all three unions will receive:

  • 2025-26
    • 6% increase comprised of:
      • 4% ongoing raise
        • 3% retroactive to July 1, 2025
        • 1% retroactive to January 1, 2026
      • a one-time bonus equivalent to 2%
  • 2026-27
    • 3% on-going raise
  • 2027-28
    • Guaranteed 3% on-going raise and:
      • If the COLA is between 3% and 3.99%, employees will receive that amount in a raise
      • If the COLA is more than 4%, the two teams will re-open salary negotiations

Increases to health benefits

AUSD also agreed to increase its contribution to health benefits from a maximum of 1,021.41 per month ($12,256.00 per year) to a maximum of $1800 per month ($21,600 per month).

“At a time when many districts and labor unions around us are at impasse or even at strike, we are grateful that the teams teams found creative ways to increase our compensation significantly,” says Superintendent Pasquale Scuderi. “We are especially pleased that AUSD is able to provide these increases without having to lay off employees or cut programs in the short term.

“That’s not to say we won’t need to make sacrifices and trade-offs down the road,” he adds. “But the good news right now is that we have time to figure out the finances.”

Money for the increases will come from any additional funding disbursed by the state (including current and future Cost of Living increases and one-time funds), use of reserve funds formerly held aside in case of a fiscal emergency, and, potentially, budget reductions in future years.

“One of the strengths of Alameda Unified is that we are a closely knit educational community,” said Board President Ryan LaLonde. “That makes our relationships especially important, particularly during difficult negotiations. We appreciate the efforts to reach agreement, and we look forward to improved relationships going forward. Our students are best served when collaboration is grounded in respect, accountability, and a shared commitment to doing better.”

Non-represented management employees will receive the same salary and benefits increase.

Employee will receive their retro checks when they receive their April paychecks.
