Board of Education Receives 13 Applications for Vacant Seat

The Board of Education has received 13 applications for the seat left vacant when Board Member Jennifer Williams resigned on August 12. In the next step, the applications will be reviewed, and several candidates will be selected to be interviewed at the September 22, 2026 Board Meeting.

Background

The process for filling a Board vacancy is governed by Board Bylaw 9223.

The first step was for the Board to vote on whether to fill the vacancy via appointment or special election.

At its August 25 public meeting, the Board of Education voted unanimously to fill Ms. Williams’ seat via appointment.

Applications for the Board seat were available from August 26 to September 11.

As of 5 pm on September 11 (the deadline for the application), 13 community members had applied to be considered.  Those redacted applications are available on AUSD’s Board Vacancy Process page.

The term of this appointment will run from the date of appointment through November of 2028, which would have been the end of Ms. Williams’ term.
