We’re delighted to introduce a number of new site principals and assistant principals to Alameda Unified this year.

Alex Harp will be leading Alameda High School as the principal. Mr. Harp came to AUSD from the San Lorenzo Unified School District, where he served as the principal of two high schools.  Mr. Harp received a BA in French from UCLA and did his Masters work at California State University, East Bay.  

Maulette Cardenas is the new assistant principal at Ruby Bridges Elementary School. Most recently, Ms. Cardenas served as vice principal in Pleasanton Unified School District and the Literacy/English Language Development Coordinator in San Carlos School District.  She received her BS in Commerce from De LaSalle University and her MA in Education from Ateneo de Manila University.

Mark Segado, the former assistant principal of Love Elementary School, is now the new principal there.  Prior to coming to AUSD, Mr. Segado worked as an instructional coach and social studies teacher with KIPP Public Charter Schools in New York City and KIPP King in San Lorenzo. Mr. Segado received both his Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology and his Master’s Degree in Teaching from University of San Francisco and his MA in Educational Leadership from the Principals Leadership Institute at UC Berkeley.

Sherry Rouse, who was an intervention lead at Love Elementary School for five years,  is now the new assistant principal there. A ten-year veteran of education, Ms. Rouse also taught 5^th grade at the school.  She received her BA in American Studies from UC Santa Cruz and her Master of Arts in Educational Leadership and Administration from San Francisco State University.

Jean Liu, who has worked as a teacher at Bay Farm School and an intervention lead at Ruby Bridges, is the new principal at Franklin Elementary School. She received her BA from UCLA and earned her Master's in Education at UC Berkeley. 

Chiharu Kitchens is joining the Encinal Jr. and Sr. High School as an assistant principal. Ms. Kitchens comes to us from Dublin Unified School District, where she was an assistant principal. Prior to that, she was a behaviorist at Moraga School District. She earned her BA in psychology and her MA in Education (with a focus on special education) at San Diego State University.

Danielle Bouchard is a new assistant principal at Lincoln Middle School. Her most recent position was assistant principal in Clayton; prior to that she served as the English Department Chair in Fremont. She received her BA in English at The Colorado College and her Master’s in School Leadership at California State University, East Bay.

Yordanos Weldeghiorgis joins us as the new assistant principal at Wood Middle School. Formerly, the Vice Principal (and before that Dean of Students) at Berkeley High School, Ms. Weldeghiorgis holds both a Master’s in Educational Leadership from UC Berkeley, and a Master’s in Education from UC Berkeley.

 In addition, this year we welcome George Mitsopoulos as our district-wide Athletic Director. Mr. Mitsopoulos comes to us from Martin Luther King, Jr. Middle school in Berkeley, where he was an assistant principal. Prior to that, he worked as an athletic director, principal, and assistant principal in Hayward. While both Alameda and Encinal High Schools will still have athletic directors on site, Mr. Mitsopoulos will provide oversight and cohesion to the district’s overall athletic program.
