FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Issued By:

Superintendent Pasquale Scuderi (510) 337-7060 and Board President Ryan LaLonde (510) 337-7187

Alameda, California – Wednesday, August 26, 2026 – The Board of Education for the Alameda Unified School District (AUSD) is now accepting applications for the seat left vacant when Board Member Jennifer Williams resigned.

Ms. Williams, who was elected to her third term in November 2024, resigned on August 12, 2026. She had served on the Board since 2016.

AUSD Board Policy 9223 dictates that when a board seat becomes open, the remaining board members can choose to fill that seat via appointment or special election. At its August 25 public meeting, the Board of Education voted unanimously to fill Ms. William’s seat via appointment.

Although two Board seats will be on the November 3 ballot, under California Education Code, it is too late for Board Member Williams’ seat to be included on the ballot for the November 3 general election.

Appointment Details

The term for this board seat will run from the date of the swearing in through November 2028, which is the next regularly scheduled Board of Education election .

In accordance with Education Code Section 35107, to be eligible for election or appointment to a seat on the governing board of a school district a person must be:

  • Eighteen (18) years of age or older
  •  A citizen of the state
  • A resident within the boundaries of the Alameda Unified School District
