The California State PBIS Coalition has recognized 12 AUSD schools for their implementation of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) during the 2025-26 school year.  The recognition levels range from Platinum (the highest) to Bronze. Nine AUSD received the platinum award.

PBIS is designed to create safe, supportive, and productive learning environments by teaching and reinforcing positive student behavior rather than relying solely on punishment. It also provides a continuum of supports for students who struggle to meet the school expectations.

Not every school site’s PBIS program is the same. But all robust PBIS programs consist of: clearly defined school-wide expectations; explicit teaching on those expectations; acknowledgment of appropriate behaviors; and individual support where needed.

“The research shows very clearly that a positive school climate supports not only students’ emotional and social development but their academic outcomes,” says Superintendent Pasquale Scuderi. “PBIS is a crucial component to creating such positive school climates. I’d like to congratulate our principals, teachers, and counselors are doing a stellar job implementing PBIS and teaching our young people to be thoughtful, engaged, and considerate citizens.”
