Measure B1 Parcel Tax
Introduction
On November 8, 2016, 74.2% of Alameda Voters approved Measure B1. This parcel tax is essentially an extension of Measure A, which ended on June 30, 2018.
Measure B1 went into effect on July 1, 2018. Like Measure A, Measure B1 will generate approximately $12 million per year for seven years. These revenues support a range of core programs and values in AUSD, including: small class sizes; neighborhood schools; high school athletics; music, PE, and media centers in elementary schools; fine arts classes in high schools; innovative programs; and attracting and retaining excellent teachers.
Rate and Structure
Under Measure A, property owners are levied .32 per building area square foot annually for seven years. There is an annual cap of $7999 per parcel; vacant parcels are charged $299 annually.
Seniors and community members who receive Social Security Disability payments can apply to be exempt from the parcel tax.
