Board Vacancy Process

At the October 24 Board of Education meeting, Board Vice President Megan Sweet announced that she was resigning from the Board effective that evening. She submitted her official resignation on October 26.

The process for filling a Board vacancy is governed by Board Bylaw 9223. The first step is for the Board to vote on whether to fill the vacancy via appointment or special election. On November 3, 2023 the Board of Education voted unanimously to fill Ms. Sweet's seat via appointment.

Applications for the Board seat became available on November 6 and will be accepted until 5 pm on December 6. The term of this appointment will run from the date of appointment through November of 2024, when the next regularly scheduled Board of Education election will take place.The full process is detailed in this November 3 press release.
