Board Vacancy Process
Introduction
A seat on the AUSD Board of Education was left open when Member Meleah Hall resigned in late September.
AUSD Board Bylaw 9223 dictates that when a board seat becomes open, the remaining board members can choose to fill that seat via appointment or special election.
At its September 30 public meeting, the Board of Education voted unanimously to fill Board Member Hall’s seat via appointment. Applications were made available from October 3 to October 13.
Six community members applied:
- Joyce Boyd
- Tyler Gamble
- Carrie Hahnel
- Philip Hu
- Timothy McQuillan
- Evan Schwimmer
At its November 12 special meeting, the Board of Education will interview Philip Hu and Carrie Hahnel and then vote on who will fill Ms. Hall's seat until December, 2026.
